HAV

New constellation by an old friend of mine which I used to play in Honey Made Opiate with back in the days. They really got something going here, hats off for these guys! Songs like Lost Song and Circles are the best tunes I heard from a demo band in like.... seven or eight years.

Awesome, Foo Fighters!

Foo Fighters - Refshaleøen, Denmark, June 21st

After some delay, the Foo Fighters storm up on stage and break into the great Bridge Burning. The fact that Gaslight Anthem opened for these arena rockers is now totally abscent. Before Rope, Dave gets the 17.000 fans going:

"How long do you want us to play? Do you want us to play one hour? One hour and twenty-five minutes? One hour and twenty-six minutes? Do you want us to play two hours? Or how about this, we keep playing till they pull the fucking plug?!"

This speech is rapidly followed by their first hit single off of Wasting Light entitled Rope. A VERY unpredictable choice of song order, to say the least. The setlist though is very appealing overall, I think. It's easy to see that the songs from their debut album (released in 1995) doesn't fit in with this huge arena rock sound that these boys are possessing in 2011. Totally different bands there, no doubt. Nowadays they don't even play Big Me, and that's too bad for us hardcore fans, huh?

The evening has a magic touch indeed as the beautiful red evening sun goes down on the stage. At one point Grohl even exclaims: "Man, does the sun EVER go down around here!?".

The venue is located on Refshaleoen, a place that's pretty hard to approach. The scene itself is located on an old shipyard with two small hills pointing towards the stage, where the ones who didn't have the more exclusive inner circle tickets, were sitting. The old shipyard was totally packed with people. On both hills, in front of stage and all around it. Before rocketing into a Queen-cover Grohl goes:

"Light 'em up, I wanna see these fuckers where they areoooooh, there they are! Oh, I see you! You got the cheap seats. That's cool. What about you motherfuckers, on that hill over there? You guys are like... having a picknick and shit! That's cool.

The sound, this evening, is really good with the exception of Pat Smear's guitar that I think gets drowned in Dave's and Chris'. They perform an awesome version of Cold Day In The Sun with Taylor Hawkins singing. One of the best tunes of the evening! Also, Stacked Actors is amazing. Following the bass intro one might even think that it could well create a magnitude 8.5 on the Richter Scale.

A fenomenal concert that got really good reviews from various critics! The Foos are like a bottle of whine. They get better and better by each year.
